2022 CVB numbers are in, indicating that tourism is booming in Logan County…Plan a spring getaway at a West Virginia state park…and motorcyclists, learn how to stay safe on the road…on today’s daily304.

#1 – From THE LOGAN BANNER –  The Hatfield and McCoy Convention and Visitors Bureau reported nearly $7,000 additional funding in their financials for 2022 compared to the previous year.

CVB Executive Director Debrina Williams said 40% of the organization’s working budget is based off the numbers presented in the report.

“You can take a look at those numbers and know that tourism is booming in Logan County,” Williams said during Monday’s meeting of the Logan County Commission.

According to the CVB’s annual report, the organization had $243,367.15 in total assets in 2022, compared to $236,761.23 in 2021.

Commission President Diana Barnette, who also sits on the CVB Board, noted that the 2022 figure is a representation of how much hotel/motel tax the county is raking in, largely due to out-of-state riders on the Hatfield McCoy Trails.

#2 – From WV STATE PARKS –  Celebrate spring’s return with a getaway at West Virginia state parks and forests! As the weather warms, trees sprout their delicate greenery and colorful wildflowers pop up, prompting a flurry of wildlife activity. Don’t wait until summer to enjoy our state parks! Beat the crowds and visit some of these iconic places this spring.

It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit, Audra State Park is awash with scenic beauty. Located in the wooded hills of Barbour and Upshur counties, Audra is known for the Alum Cave rock overhang, which is a popular hiking destination with plenty of photo opportunities.

Few places are as photographed as Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park. Its picturesque setting is postcard-ready year-round, but in May, the rhododendrons along Glade Creek begin to bloom, framing the mill in cheerful color.

Stunning views of the Bluestone Gorge. Exciting outdoor adventures. Family activities you can enjoy from sunup to sundown. Pipestem Resort State Park is one of West Virginia’s most popular family vacation destinations.

#3 – From NHTSA –  If you ride a motorcycle, you already know how much fun riding can be. You understand the exhilaration of cruising the open road and the challenge of controlling a motorcycle. But motorcycling also can be dangerous.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges drivers and motorcyclists to share the road and be alert, and reminds motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant motorcycle helmets, and to always ride sober.

Safe riding practices and cooperation from all road users will help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our nation’s highways. But it’s especially important for drivers to understand the safety challenges faced by motorcyclists such as size and visibility, and motorcycle riding practices like downshifting and weaving to know how to anticipate and respond to them. By raising motorists’ awareness, both drivers and riders will be safer sharing the road.
